Meet Debbie
Co-Founder and Director of Art & Events
Debbie has called Asheville home since 2002. After earning her BFA from Appalachian State University, she began volunteering at an art-based day program for adults with disabilities. Realizing it was her life’s purpose, Debbie co-founded Open Hearts Art Center in 2005 and remains inspired daily by the honesty and creativity of the artists.
Her greatest joy is helping artists recognize their talents, gain confidence, and share their invaluable contributions with the community. Through exhibitions, events, and volunteer opportunities, she strives to break down barriers and foster inclusiveness.
Outside of Open Hearts, Debbie enjoys creating her own art and spending time with her husband, two sons, and their dog—camping, traveling, and taking in live music together.
